Annotation:	Specific features of local development strategies involving local communities are considered. The economic and organizational mechanism of this approach is analyzed and its impact on the social capital of the community is determined. The econometric modeling of the changes of social capital in the communities participating in the European Union and UNDP “Community based approach to local development” is carried out. The components of social capital exposed to the greatest influence are identified.
