Title:Approaches to determining the essence digitization, digitalization and digital transformation
Authors:Bohdanov O. O., Dnipro University of Technology,

Annotation:Methods. Applied: a complex of general scientific and specific methods; the method of system analysis – to reveal the evolution of the conceptual and categorical apparatus of the digital economy theory; comparative analysis – to compare conceptual approaches to defining the essence of digital changes; the method of structural and logical modeling – to build a hierarchical model of the categorical series; the graphical method – to visualize the dynamic trajectory of the digital development of economic systems and business entities. Results. The article solves the scientific problem of terminological polysemy and demarcates the concepts of «digitization», «digitalization», and «digital transformation». It is proven that these categories form a single hierarchical system, where digitization acts as a technological basis for creating digital assets, digitalization is an instrument for optimizing economic processes and reducing transaction costs, and digital transformation is a strategic mechanism for the fundamental reconfiguration of economic relations and business models. A comparative matrix has been developed that allows identifying the specifics of these processes by the object of impact, the scale of changes, and the ability to generate new added value. Novelty lies in improving the theoretical and methodological approach to assessing digital development by developing a comprehensive hierarchical model of the categorical series, which distinguishes between macro- and microeconomic manifestations of digital changes. For the first time, a direct correlation between the achieved level of the digital hierarchy and the ability of the economic system to form sustainable comparative advantages in the context of globalization has been substantiated. It is proven that full integration into global value chains and the platform economy is possible exclusively at the stage of complete digital transformation. Practical value. The proposed systematization forms a methodological foundation for improving state policy in the field of supporting innovations and building high-tech sectors of the economy. At the microeconomic level, the formed categorical apparatus allows economic entities to avoid inefficient allocation of investment resources during the premature implementation of technologies, creating a basis for developing sound strategies for economic expansion in global markets.
